UCSB Alumni Association 2011 Annual Meeting Minutes

1) Call Meeting to Order
President Ron Rubenstein, ’66, called the meeting to order at 12:52 p.m.

2) Minutes of the Previous Meeting
The minutes of the meeting of June 5, 2010, as published in the Summer 2010 online issue of Coastlines, were approved.

3) President’s Report
President Rubenstein reported on three milestones of the 2010-2011 year. The Alumni Association Scholarship Fund Campaign now has more than $500,000 in cash and pledges. The 5th annual All Gaucho Reunion was very successful, and had an attendance of 6,000 people. The Alumni Association honored five deserving people during the reunion, including sports broadcaster Jim Rome. Mosher Alumni House is running well.

4) Treasurer’s Report
Secretary-Treasurer Dick Breaux, ’67, reported the alumni association was projected to end the 2010-2011 fiscal year with a balanced budget, and projected in the proposed budget to end the 2011-2012 year with a deficit of approximately $170,000. As of April 30, 2011, the investments in the UC General Endowment Pool have a market value of $3,815,489.

4) Executive Director's Report
Executive Director George Thurlow, ’73, distributed a written report with details about the current fiscal situation, All Gaucho Reunion, Mosher Alumni House, Advocacy, the Alumni Association Scholarship Fund, Student Engagement, and Technology. “The Reunion events, including the Gaucho Race Series, raised almost $20,000 for the Alumni Association Scholarship Fund.”

6) Election of Directors
The membership also re-elected three board members to second three-year terms:

Preston Hensley, ’67, M.A. ’69
John Keever, ’67
The membership also re-elected five board members to first three-year terms:
Jan Campbell, ’74
Francesco Mancia, ’80
Niki Sandoval, Ph.D. ’07

Travis Wilson, ’02

7) Presentation of Alumni Legacy Scholarships
Arcelia Arce, ’98, chairperson of the Alumni and Students Awards Committee, presented Alumni Legacy Scholarships to Daniel Dunham, Chemical Engineering, ’13; Sheila Ganjian, Biology, ’12; Ryan Simmons, Business Economics, ’12; and Dani Ziff, Biology and Dance, ’13.

8) Adjournment
President Rubenstein adjourned the meeting at 2:15 p.m..
