UCSB Alumni Association Board of Directors

The mission of the University of California Santa Barbara Alumni Association is to serve and involve UCSB alumni and students; to enlist alumni talents in the preservation and promotion of UCSB's image, tradition, pride and status as a world class university.

The UCSB Alumni Association Board of Directors help to retain the interest and involvement of alumni in our university. The board offers counsel and advice, serves as a legislative advocate and oversees policy for the operation of the Alumni Association which serves UCSB's 130,000+ graduates.

The Association has an annual budget of 1.2 million and is responsible for all university alumni programming, including alumni clubs, membership solicitation, career services, the publication of Coastlines magazine and the operation of the UCSB Family Vacation Center. Every four years a present or former board member serves as a voting member of the University of California Board of Regents.

Alumni board members enjoy a prestigious and responsible position within the university community. Ours is a working board and involves a commitment of time and resources. The board and most committees meet at least three times a year, usually in Santa Barbara. Board members are expected to attend meetings and will be replaced if they fail to attend three out of four meetings. Board members assume travel and lodging expenses for these meetings. Members are elected to a three-year term and may be elected at the end of their first term to an additional three-year term.

In order to select a diverse cross section of alumni, the Nominations Committee takes into consideration the makeup of the board. Factors considered include geographical area of residence, year of graduation, occupation and volunteer activities. Persons suggested as nominees are considered for three years.
