All in the...Modern Family
A conference focusing on the constantly-changing television genre of scripted comedies. All in the…Modern Family will explore the cultural and social impact of comedies throughout their long history. It will also celebrate the creative process that has kept the genre popular. The event will feature clips from iconic sitcoms, as well as workshops, speakers, and panels of scholars, entertainment journalists, and people who have worked in comedy, both in front of and behind the cameras. All Gaucho Reunion Golf Social
Closest to the pin and long drive competition. UCSB Recreational Sports is coordinating an All Gaucho Reunion Golf Social at the Santa Barbara Golf Club in support of the new UCSB Recreational Sports Legacy Fund. Participation in this event directly assists in the sustainability of our 19 Intramural sports, 22 intercollegiate sport club teams, and 15 adventure programs. Rec Sports activities contribute to a vibrant, healthy, and active campus community while infusing essential life skills including competitive achievement, goal setting, teamwork, positive communication, and leadership. Special Interest Panel - Re-thinking the American Curriculum

ECE 50th Anniversary Distinguished Lecture & Reception
In 1974 UCSB faculty and students were pioneers in the first packet speech communication over the Arpanet, the forerunner to what we now call Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP). Hear how it all happened in Stanford University Professor Robert Gray's talk, California Coding: Early LPC Speech in Santa Barbara, Marina del Rey, and Silicon Valley and its Accidental Impact on the Internet Protocol. Docent-Led Tours of the Art, Design & Architecture Museum
The Art, Design & Architecture Museum re-opened February 26, 2012 with two unprecedented exhibitions: Carefree California: Cliff May and the Romance of the Ranch House and Catherine Opie Photographs Cliff May. The exhibits and related programming are part of the region-wide J. Paul Getty Trust initiative, Pacific Standard Time: Art in L.A., 1945-1980, a groundbreaking collaboration of more than sixty cultural institutions across Southern California. UCSB Athletics will be inducting some former Gaucho athletes who achieved phenomenal success in their athletic careers and post-UCSB careers.
Come congratulate the inductees while participating in the Hall of Fame induction ceremony and dinner. The UCSB Hall of Fame will add the women’s tennis doubles team of Amelia White and Kelly Spencer, men’s volleyball star Mike Gorman, standout wide receiver Amahl Thomas, former women’s basketball coach Mark French and former baseball coach Al Ferrer. Also, in 2012, UCSB Athletics is initiating a biennial award to accompany the Hall of Fame inductions, the Distinguished Gaucho Award. The initial award, which honors a former Gaucho athlete who has achieved great success in his/her post-UCSB career, will go to former tennis player Wayne Bryan, ’69. Coffee and Chemistry: A Grad Student Seminar for Alumni
The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry would like to invite all department alumni to attend a special seminar and breakfast event. Experienced graduate students will present their work in a series of 10 to 15 minute general audience talks designed to appeal to chem students and professionals from any discipline and at any experience level (senior undergrad/1st year grad and beyond). Accompanied by coffee and breakfast, the collegial and friendly atmosphere of this seminar will provide a great opportunity for you to connect with current faculty and students and learn about ongoing research projects in the department. This event will also include a silent auction featuring items donated by current members of the department and a raffle of items donated by local businesses. All proceeds will support the development of student programs within the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry.
