Andy Iro Gaucho Soccer Alum Iro Traded to Toronto FC - Andy Iro, a dominating center back during his soccer career at UCSB, was traded by the Columbus Crew to Toronto FC on Friday. The 6-5 Iro, helped UCSB win the NCAA College Cup championship in 2006.  He was a first-round draft pick of the Crew in the 2008 MLS SuperDraft and became a regular starter in 2010.
Clyde Woods Campus Mourns Loss of Noted Professor - UCSB Black Studies associate professor and distinguished scholar Clyde Woods passed away July 6 at the Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital. He was 54 years old. Woods’ research explored the cultural practices of people oppressed by social and public policy issues.
University of California UC Regents Approve 9.6 Percent Tuition Hike - Regents voted to increase tuition — for both undergraduate and graduate students — by another 9.6 percent, bringing tuition this fall up 17.6 percent total. In-state undergraduate students will now pay $12,192 in tuition per year, up from $10,302 for the 2010-2011 school year.
Kohn Hall Kohn Hall Gets LEED Silver - Future physics majors looking for a green school have a new option, as UC Santa Barbara‘s Kohn Hall, home of the Kavli Institute for Theoretical Physics, was recently awarded LEED Silver certification by the U.S. Green Building Council.
Brian Shaw Pacers Hire Former UCSB Star Brian Shaw as Associate Head Coach - The Indiana Pacers have hired former UC Santa Barbara star Brian Shaw as their associate head coach and retained Dan Burke from the previous staff. Shaw was an assistant for the Los Angeles Lakers last season.

Heineken wins kite racing championship Heineken Wins Kite Racing World Championship - UCSB Sailing's John Heineken is champion of the 2011 Kite Racing World Champions, which took place last weekend off the windy German island of Sylt. Scoring 6.3, Heineken led closest scoring competitor Adam Koch (USA) by ten points.

Decolonizing Feminisms Decolonizing Feminisms: Healing Through the Arts - 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 25, in Storke Plaza at UCSB. The event will examine how U.S. third world feminist politics might comprise a set of methods for building egalitarian and democratic politics for the twenty-first century.
