Alumni and Friends Return to UCSB for Gaucho Reunion

Over 6,200 alumni and friends returned to UCSB for a weekend full of Gaucho pride. The returnees took part in 55 official events ranging from Taste of UCSB, Gaucho Gallop, An Evening with Alice Waters and more. Donations from the Class of 1963, the Taste of UCSB Silent Auction, and more events helped raise approximately 75,000 dollars for student scholarships. The Alice Waters lecture and Taste of UCSB both sold out with nearly 900 people at each event, proof that the Gaucho Reunion is gaining popularity. "We would like to thank all of our sponsors, volunteers, UCSB faculty, staff and students,"  said Associate Director of the UCSB Alumni Association John Lofthus. All Gaucho Reunion grew from 4,930 alumni and friends to an estimated 6,235 between 2012 and 2013. Over 100 alumni who served as committee members helped make the weekend a success by providing alumni input "Our nearly 175,000 alumni embody Gaucho excellence in their businesses, athletics, academia, and families. Their alma mater remains important to them, and numerous Gauchos give back to the UC Santa Barbara community," said Lofthus. "We are forever grateful for these acts of kindness, but many alumni have yet to give back to their alma mater. The first step is to bring these, and all, alumni back to the campus."
