Governor and President In Two-Person Committee

Gov. Jerry Brown and UC President Janet Napolitano have formed a special two-member committee to discuss the upcoming UC budget, proposed tuition increases and innovative programs in education. Napolitano has proposed a 5 percent tuition increase for 2015-16. Brown, as one of the sitting UC Regents, is opposing the increase and calling on UC to operate more efficiently. His budget contains a $120 million increase for UC, which Napolitano has argued is not enough to pay for increased enrollment of California students, pension plans and general operating expenses.
