Food for Thought

FAQ's For Alumni Hosts
  • What do I have to do as a host?
  • To assist our hosts, we take care of all marketing, screening, interviewing, and logistics to get the students to your dinner. All we ask hosts to take care of is the purchase of food for the students and themselves and to mentally prepare for questions that the students may ask. We also ask the host to take care of the location for the dinner.
  • Do I have to have the dinner at my house?
  • Not at all! We are happy to work with any location so long as it can provide a comfortable area for a dinner for 8 to 12 people. Our first three meals were at a house, an office, and a hotel meeting room and all performed well.
  • What would a dinner schedule look like?
  • We suggest having a meal starting between 6:30 and 7:30pm.
    A standard schedule would be: 6:30pm – 7:00pm
Welcoming appetizers such as cheese and crackers and beverages to allow people to arrive, meet, and mingle: 7:00pm – 8:00pm
Dinner service where hosts tell their career path story and answer questions from the students: 8:00pm – 8:30pm
Standing dessert like cookies or brownies allowing people to once again mix, mingle, and discuss what they talked about.
  • What kind of food should I provide?
  • Any meal is welcome and we will provide information on dietary restrictions to ensure that all your guests are able to enjoy the meal. Meals do not have to be home cooked if you would prefer to order food from a restaurant.
  • What should I talk about?
  • Anything and everything! The best thing about this program is that it is a chance to share about your life experiences and discuss things that worked for you and things that did not. The best question to answer is “What do I wish someone would have told me when I was in college?” Anything that you can share to the students that helps them in their career path will be invaluable to them.
