What is Food For Thought?

Food For Thought is an opportunity for students to connect with Alumni in career fields they are interested in and to get insider information on both the industry and advice on how to enter and succeed in their respective careers; all while sharing a meal together.

  • Do I have to be a member of the Alumni Association?
  • Food For Thought is open to all UCSB students but priority registration will be given to UCSB Alumni Members.
  • How do I join a dinner?
  • To be part of a dinner, please fill out the application for the respective program. If you are selected for the dinner, you will be contacted by our staff.
  • How does the evening typically go?
  • Most meals will take place either at the Mosher Alumni House, the alumni’s office, or the alumni’s house. Most meals take place from 7 – 9pm with the first half hour being meet and greet appetizers, an hour for dinner to discuss the career path and experience of the hosts as well as for you to share about your own career and ask questions you may have. The final half hour is a standing dessert to discuss the topics brought up during the evening.
  • Do I need to bring anything?
  • All you need to bring are your questions that you want answered.
  • What kind of questions?
  • Anything and everything! We encourage students to take some time to reflect on where they are hoping to go in their career and be able to dialogue with alumni who have been in your exact same shoes. Questions like “What I should be doing now to get into the field?” “What do you wish you knew at my age that you know now?” are perfect.
