Mission

The mission of the UCSB Alumni Association Gaucho Getaways program is to provide educational, cultural and social interaction for UCSB alumni, family and friends through a stimulating travel experience.

Eligibility & Membership

Gaucho Getaways are open to all UCSB alumni, their family, and friends of the University. All travelers, whether UCSB alumni or not, must be a current member of the UCSB Alumni Association, UCSB Affiliates, UCSB Support Group, or a member of another UC Alumni Association to participate in a Gaucho Getaways. A member may bring their spouse and children under 16 years of age on a trip, or a member may bring one guest on a trip in lieu of a spouse and children. Annual UCSB Alumni Association membership is $45.00 and lifetime membership is $500. Memberships are non-refundable and non-transferable. Dues may be paid with by check that is separate from the deposit fee, payable to UCSB Alumni Association, or with Visa or Mastercard.

Physical Requirements

To enjoy your Gaucho Getaways experience, participants must be in good mental and physical health, and be able to keep up with the pace of the group. Program participants requiring extraordinary assistance must be accompanied by someone who can and will be totally responsible for providing all required assistance. Any mental or physical constraints must be reported at the time or registration.

Program Details

The Gaucho Getaways program is compiled from proposals provided by the finest specialized tour operators. UCSB Alumni Association sponsorship means that the tour has met our strict criteria for financial responsibility, established reputation, professional staff, quality operations and all-round dependability. Travel arrangements for Gaucho Getaways will be handled by that particular tour operator designated for the program you select. Dates, itineraries, program details and costs are given in good faith, based on information available as of June 1, 2007, and are subject to change and revision. All trip prices are per person, based on double occupancy and current exchange rates and tariffs, a minimum number of participants and airfare based out of Los Angeles unless otherwise noted. Every effort will be made to carry out the program as planned.

Single Travelers

On all tours, a limited number of single spaces are available on a first-come, first served basis. Those requesting a single room are charged a single supplement. We will assist single travelers on our trips to find a compatible roommate. If a roommate cannot be found, the single supplement is required.

Expectations

All tour members are expected to enjoy traveling as part of a group-and also be tolerant of the occasional changes, delays, or minor mishaps that are a part of any kind of travel, whether it be group or individual. While program and tour operator management will do their best to see to the individual needs of travelers, their principal concern must be the welfare of the group as a whole. Individuals that are disruptive of the tour will be asked to leave at their own expense.

Children

Except for our family programs, Gaucho Getaways are designed primarily for adults who are interested in the educational and cultural aspects of travel. Some Gaucho Getaways are suitable for older children who have the necessary curiosity and interest. Children, regardless of age, must pay the advertised price, and those under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian and have both parents or guardians sign the Release and Liability Forms. Family programs are for children 8-18 years of age.

Registrations

Reservations for trips are accepted in the order in which they are reserved. Reservations are currently being accepted for 2008 Gaucho Getaways. Your deposit with the appropriately completed reservation form and current UCSB Alumni Association membership reserves your place. Trip brochures will be mailed as soon as they are available. Deposits are provisional, pending your final acceptance of the final brochure terms. Balance of the payment is due according to the schedule established by the tour operator. Payment guidelines vary among tour operators.

Cancellations and Refunds

Tour participants are subject to cancellation policies governing the particular trip in which they are enrolled. There are no refunds for unused meals, accommodations, or other included features. Please read the cancellation clauses in the trip brochures carefully.

Travel/Cancellation Insurance

It is strongly recommended that you purchase travel insurance that covers trip cancellation/interruption and/or baggage loss or damage, emergency evacuation, and accidents incurred while traveling. All confirmed passengers receive travel insurance information from the UCSB Alumni Association.
