Mechanical Requirements


Coastlines is printed on 70 lb. gloss stock by sheetfed offset printing.
Trim size: 8 1/2" X 11"
Print area: 7" x 9 3/4"
Bleeds: 8 3/4" x 11 1/4"
Halftone screens: 150 line

Coastlines is produced with Pagemaker 7.0 on a mac platform. Electronic submissions will be placed in position and separated electronically.

Artwork information


Electronic files are preferred, but original artwork, offset negatives, and veloxes are accepted. A hard copy should be supplied.
Color artwork: Besides electronic files, other color art will be accepted, but advertisier will be billed for high-resolution scans and other production costs. Film negatives to be right-reading, emulsion side down and should be furnished with one set of chromalin or progressive proofs.
Color rotation: Black, cyan, magenta, yellow

Materials will be retained by the publisher for a period of one year unless return is requested in writing. Publisher is not responsible for film held beyond one year. Production costs incurred on behalf of advertiser or its agency will be rebilled at cost.

Commissions


Agency commissions are 15% of gross billing, exclusive of production costs.

Advertising Policies


Content
  • Coastlines magazine advertising policy shall be consistent with the business practices of the University of California as established by the Regents of the University. Coastlines shall accept no advertising that is untruthful, fraudulent, or deceiving.
  • Advertising of a controversial or sensitive nature will be accepted at the discretion of the editor and the publisher. Political advertising will not be accepted.
  • Coastlines magazine will accept only advertising that is compatible with its editorial style and format.
Contract Regulations
  1. Publication of all advertising is subject to publisher's approval. Agencies and advertisers will indemnify and hold the publisher harmless from and against any loss for expenses or claims on suits arising from advertising content including but not limited to claims or suits for libel, violation of rights of privacy, plagiarism, and copyright or trademark infringement.
  2. Publisher shall not be held liable for damages for failure to publish an advertisement.
  3. Publisher accepts no responsibility for errors in key numbers or other type set by publisher.
  4. Positioning of advertisements is at the discretion of publisher, except for the back cover or if a request for a preferred position is acknowledged by the publisher in writing
  5. Cancellation of advertising will not be accepted after closing dates. Early cancellation voids all rate and position protection.
  6. Publisher reserves the right to cancel or reject any advertising for any reason.

Coastlines Magazine

Coastlines presents articles about UCSB's continuing development as a major university and its contributions to knowledge through research. Popular features include Gaucho sports, updates on the lives of alumni, and news of Alumni Association activities. Advertising is limited to a maximum of 30%. The UCSB Alumni Association publishes the magazine in support of its two-fold mission to serve both alumni and the University. The Association seeks to retain the interest and involvement of UCSB alumni through a variety of programs. Many of these activities attract alumni back to Santa Barbara for reunions, annual awards programs, athletic events, and the Association's popular on-campus Family Vacation Center.
