Walks Through The Enchanting Santa Fe Region

Georgia O’Keeffe called it “The Faraway,” this enchanted land of stark beauty and clear light.  A walk here is akin to stepping into an O’Keeffe masterpiece. On paths forged by Indians and Conquistadors, pass through green valleys, desert canyons, Sangre de Cristo Mountains trails, forests of pine and juniper.  This magical terrain still inspires and artists thrive. Enjoy a visit to Bandelier National Monument, dinner in the home of a local artist/gourmet chef, the Georgia O'Keefe Museum, and a private tour of the O'Keefe home accompanied by a discussion providing insight to her life and art. We also hear from a lecturer who retells stories of the literary lives and times of famous former Taos residents: Mabel Dodge Luhan, D.H. Lawrence, Ansel Adams, Martha Graham and Carl Jung.

Our expedition starts at the end of the historic Trail in the nation’s oldest capital in Santa Fe, moves west to Abiquiu and ends in Taos, another magical arts’ center made famous by Mabel Dodge Luhan and DH Lawrence nearly a century ago. We don’t just celebrate the sun and sky in this Land of Enchantment ~ our taste buds are treated to feasts of New Mexican cuisine and surprisingly good wine, thanks to traditions past down by Spanish monks in the early 1600’s.

Enjoy your evenings at accommodations such as gracious bed and breakfast inns, quaint lodges or country house hotels, all which share a distinctive charm, modern amenities, fine dining and personal service before heading out on daily walks in the company of knowledgeable guides who bring the countryside and history of the area to life. At your service every step of the way, these experts attend to every detail of your trip. Explore the art, architecture and food of the region. Walk as little or as much as you want. Support vans provide transfers between accommodations.

The dates for this exclusive walk coincide with two major local events, giving you the opportunity to extend you stay before or after the walk.   The highly entertaining Santa Fe Chili Festival runs from September 25th thru the 28th and the world-famous Balloon Fiesta in Albuquerque operates for 10 days beginning on Saturday, October 4th.  Both of these events attract large number of domestic and international visitors so accommodation in Santa Fe and Albuquerque will be at a premium.  Don’t delay in booking your pre or post trip extension so that you’ll enjoy a memorable stay in New Mexico.
