Thanks for Joining Us for All Gaucho Reunion
Over 6,200 alumni and friends returned to UCSB for a weekend full of 55 official events. All Gaucho Reunion and associated events raised approximately 75,000 dollars for student scholarships. The Alice Waters lecture and Taste of UCSB both sold out with nearly 900 people at each event, proof that the Gaucho reunion is gaining popularity. This year, All Gaucho Reunion grew from 4,930 alumni and friends to an estimated 6,235. Read more.
Congratulations to the 2013 Gaucho Gallop Winners
10K winners were Niall Coppinger and Elizabeth Schwyzer for General Public, Travis Bower and Angela Erdmann for Alumni, Sam Breyfogle and Laura Johns for Students. The 5K winners were Ritesh Dupar and Heather Porter for Alumni, Scott Casamassa and Lee Scheuermann for General Public, Samantha Jones and Michael Najarro for students. The Gaucho Challenge winners were Jon Waltman and Jared Wong, the Jamaican Bobsledding Team. The Doggie Dash winner was Steve Harding and Bob. Read more.
Amgen Founder, Philanthropist Named Honorary Alumnus
Amgen founder William K. "Bill" Bowes has been named an honorary alumnus of UC Santa Barbara. He is honored for his philanthropy and for a decades-long devotion to improving health by advancing science. Their most recent pledge was for five-million for stem cell therapies for ocular disease. Emmy-winning television producer Marcy Carsey was named chair of the UC Santa Barbara Foundation Board of Trustees. Read more.
The Campaign of UC Santa Barbara, a long-range fundraising program with a $1-billion goal now stands at $768 million. As the University of California continues to face reductions in state funding, more of UCSB's operating costs are being covered by private donations.
