Jeff Menzel and Evan Patak Named to Team USA's 2013 World League Roster

Former UC Santa Barbara men’s volleyball standouts Jeff Menzel and Evan Patak have been named to Team USA’s roster for the 2013 FIVB World League Tournament. The World League is the most prestigious annual tournament in international volleyball. It features 18 teams and seven weeks of pool play before a Final Four round in July. This will be Menzel’s first time in the World League and Patak’s fourth trip to the tournament after playing for Team USA from 2009 to 2011.


MEN’S BASEBALL
UCSB Baseball Finish Season

Gauchos lost 5-4 to Texas A&M, finishing the season with a 35–25 record. For the first time since 2001, the Gauchos went to the NCAA Regionals. They lost a 3-2 thriller against Oregon State. The Gauchos finished with one of their best seasons in recent history, winning their final six series of the year and finishing second in the Big West Conference standings.





MEN’S GOLF
Kita, Otte Finish 3-4, UCSB is 5th at Big West Championship

The Gauchos finished fifth in the team standings at the Big West Championship Tournament at the La Quinta Mountain Course. The Gauchos were in third place after the first two rounds, but Long Beach State and Cal State Fullerton passed them in the final round. Kei Kita shot a 4-under par 212, and Paul Otte carded a 3-under par 213 to finish 3–4 at the tournament.




WOMEN’S TENNIS
Gauchos Fall to No. 2 Seeded Long Beach State in Big West Semifinals

No. 2 seed Long Beach State defeated No. 3 seed UC Santa Barbara, 4–1, in the semifinals of the Big West Women’s Tennis Championship. The Gauchos concluded their season at 15–8 under first-year head coach Simon Thibodeau. The team entered the Big West Championships with its best record since 2009.




TRACK & FIELD
UCSB Track and Field Team Go to NCAA West Regionals

Twelve athletes went to Austin, Texas, for the NCAA West Regionals. Seniors Jenn Carey and Amanda Rodriguez advanced to quarterfinals, with Carey advancing to nationals in June. Carey finished third in her heat with a time of 52.72 in the 400-meter dash.
