Alum Acaba Spending 6 Months on Space Station

Flight Engineer Joseph Acaba launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan on May 15 with two other crew members to spend six months on the International Space Station. While there, he worked the space station's robotic arm while the SpaceX Dragon capsule was docking and undocking. He has also been witness to two rare astronomical occurrences: the Venus transit across the sun and a huge asteroid flying very close to Earth. Acaba will be returning in September as space station crew members rotate out. Above, Acaba is seen on the screen of the Russian Mission Control in Korolev, Russia, a few hours after the Soyuz TMA-04M docked to the International Space Station with Acaba and fellow crew members, Soyuz Commander Gennady Padalka and Flight Engineer Sergei Revin.
